Srebarna Lake
Srebarna Nature Reserve, a freshwater lake and bird sanctuary adjoining the Danube River, was named a
UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983. It lies on the bird migration route between Europe and Africa and is most famous for the 179 bird species that nest on its territory among them the Dalmatian Pelican.

Nature reserve consisting of the biggest riverine forest in the Western Pontic and the coastal dunes alternating with swamp woods. Kamchia is conducted as UNESCO Biosphere reserve.
Cape Kaliakra and Coastal Steppe Area
Kaliakra is one of the most beautiful historic capes in Europe. The whole area around is a reserve, which comprises typical pontic steppes, brick-colored coastal cliffs and adjacent sea aquatory and the only wetland in a deep canyon, called Bolata.
Durankulak Lake
It is one of the best- preserved coastal wetlands in Bulgaria with international importance for the protection of over 260 endemic, rare and endangered species of plants and animals. A chalcolitic settlement from 5th millennium B.C. is excavated on the big island in the lake.
Canyon of Suha Reka
The canyon of Suha Reka river spreads over 62 km through the waterless Dobrudja plateau. The natural hills along the meandering river once were fortified strongholds and the numerous caves hosted one of the first ascetic Christian colonies in Europe. A lot of rare animal and plant species could be observed in the canyon.
Canyon of Provadiiska River
A group of geological formations along the stream of Provadiiska river constituted this natural phenomenon. Its most valuable advantage is the diversity of imposing land and rock forms, as well as a number of historical and archeological sites scattered everywhere in the gorge.
Danubian Islands and Wetlands
The islands are as Noah’s Ark giving a refuge for many birds and plant species avoiding the industrialized or cultivated banks. Jungle-like forests cover these unstable pieces of land in the river. Just as a reflection the coastal lakes and swamps are locked between the slopes and the fields of Deliorman plateau.
Shumensko Plateau
A high lonely plateau amidst the Danubian Plain and one of the few Bulgarian natural parks. Different types of broad-leaved forests are home of diverse plant and animal species. The numerous caves and rock shelters additionally enrich the wildlife.
The Wonderful Rocks and the Gorge of Luda Kamchia
Luda Kamchia river cuts the wide Balkan mountain forming a long picturesque gorge. A lot of beautiful landscapes could be seen there, but nothing compares to castle-like phenomenon The Wonderful Rocks.
Kotlenska Mountain
It is a part of the main Balkan Range and Natura 2000 protected area. There are many fabulous limestone rock structures and karstic caves, some isolated and other used as religious sites since ancient times.
Ticha Lake and Golyama Kamchia Gorge
The Ticha Lake lies along the Golyama Kamchia River, one of the two rivers that merge to form the Kamchia. The river gathers waters from the hilly Gerlovo region. The name is derived from the medieval name of the Kamchia - the Ticha.
Orlova Chuka Cave
Orlova Chuka Cave is near the village Pepelina. Orlova Chuka cave is a very complex system of galleries, large and small halls. Almost 13500m cave galleries and some of them are illuminated.
Rusenski Lom National Park
The Rusenski Lom National Park protects the shallow limestone canyons of the three Lom rivers and their associated caves, forests and grasslands. There are Black storks, Egyptian vultures, and small eagles. There are different kinds of owls in the region, while the caves are homes for more than 25 different kinds of bats.
Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve
The Danube Delta is famous as one of the greatest wetlands of the Earth. At the end of a course of over 2,840 km, collecting the water from a vast hydro-logical basin that exceeds 8% of the area of Europe, the Danube has during the last 16,000 years built at its mouth with the Black Sea one of the most beautiful deltas in Europe, perhaps in the whole world.
The stretches of water and lands that were formed here, gives great conditions of life for a large amount of species of plants and birds, colonies of pelicans, herons and ibises and a great number of other aquatic and terrestrial animals.
It can be said that with these remarkable diversity of the habitats and life forms that hosts into a relatively small area, Danube Delta represents a true museum of biodiversity, a layer of natural genes, which is invaluable for the universal natural heritage.
